Bridging Gaps in Local Food Supply Chain During Covid-19 & Beyond

Customer Story - People & Process Management

When a large foodbank serving a 16-county region received a $3M, three-month grant as part of the Federal CARES Act, it sprang into action to expand its food delivery services. FarWell deployed a team of advisors to help manage the people and processes involved to maximize the grant funding and further the organization’s mission.

Call for Help:

  • Demand for food services soared due to economic impacts of the pandemic and increased food insecurity.
  • The pandemic wreaked havoc on global food supply chains, with food producers unable to get their products to processing plants, distribution facilities, and ultimately, consumers.

Farwell Advisor Support:

  • The FarWell team analyzed the foodbank’s current processes to understand how to best improve essential food procurement and collaboration efforts.
  • FarWell helped organize, assess, and draw out the plans and structure needed by the food bank.
  • The implemented model can sustain increased access and delivery of food supplies well beyond the pandemic.
  • FarWell’s flexible approach to project leadership, process refinement, and system optimization helped the organization plan, design, and implement this critical initiative.

Results:

The FarWell team has helped mange over $21 million dollars in CARES Act funding.

  • FarWell was extended after the initial assessment and roadmap work and continues to provide value and operational efficiencies. The team is contracted until July 2022.
  • The newly developed tools and processes continue to support progress. Every dollar is leveraged to its maximum potential.
  • The forecasting and tracking systems developed by the team has made managing procurement needs highly scalable.
